Hair and Hormones
This is how hormonal changes affect our hair at different stages of life:
Babies & Hair
In our months of drinking the hormonal changes cause hair loss. For this reason some babies lose their hair so fine they are born. The hormones change again and close the first year the hair out again and this time thicker and thicker.
Hair in infancy
During this time the hair can change color especially if you have light hair when born. This is because the color-producing cells are developing slowly and darkens hair. This change is not hormonal but both normal child development.
Adolescence
Hormonal changes during this period are extreme and can change the hair becoming thicker, more oily and the texture can be changed to more straight or curly.
20s hair
The hormones have stabilized and the hair at this age enjoys its best. The hair has texture and will keep for years. If there is pregnancy, with hormonal changes they produce, the hair can change and can even lose their hair.
Hair in the 30s
It's like the 20s but some people begin to see changes in hormones during this period. If there are low levels of estrogen and testosterone hair may fall, be drier and lose some volume. Most people see their first gray hair at this age.
40s hair
Most women will see hormonal changes during this period and the hair will change to drier, thinner, may have hair loss and may become more fragile. The white hairs are more common.
Hair in the 50 and over
Hormonal changes can be dramatic with the onset of menopause. Many women lose up to two thirds of hair they had in childhood. The hair becomes drier and the texture changes at the level of gray you have. You need to use more air-conditioners and treatments to find a favorable haircut. The scalp massage and application of oils in this may be beneficial.
